One of the more popular Southeast Asian cuisines, Laksa is now a dish that has become beloved all over the world. There are numerous theories as to how the dish was invented. One tale speaks of the 15th century Ming Chinese naval expeditions to Southeast Asia headed by Zheng He. These Chinese migrants are said to have intermarried into the existing local communities, calling themselves Peranakans.
